Beautiful Things

Who in life does not like to be surrounded by beautiful things? Beauty is something that is defined by each individual as different things please the senses of everyone’s mind aesthetically different. Sometimes the simplest of things can bring the most delight to a person’s being, like a familiar smell, or the particular way light hits an object. Surrounding ourselves with beautiful familiar things is comfort, inspiration and in many ways home.

Life is defined by those simple little pleasures that transport us to a happier and calmer state, it is because of these tiny captions in time that most people can manage to cope with the chaos around them.

Recently I have surrounded myself with social groups that are dedicated to visual arts and creating, forums if you may where people can share their work and be inspired by others. I am astonished by the abundant number of talented artists that are out there making the world a better more tolerable place. Respect to every committed creative and their dedication and hard work.

As I venture forward exploring new artists and finding talent around every social media corner, I managed to stumble upon an artist whose work completely inspires the creative process in me. As this new artist has come into my sights and although she is not “new” she is new to me and her work is absolute. I am in love with her whimsical approach to her subjects, her use of warm light to set the mood and her astonishing sensibility to colour.

Catherine Robinson’s work popped in one of my feeds one day and I have been admiring it ever since. Imagine for a moment your favorite image, and then place it on a white background, now place it on a black background and see what happens. The black background makes it pop and by nature the colours appear brighter and more vibrant.

Catherine utilizes this principle in her painting by complimenting her bright rich colours, which are at times surrounded by a black background. She uses pure colours and deliberately pointed brush strokes to create the story of the visual beauty she sees around her. Her technique with respect to colour, and the subtle yellow light (like the light in late afternoon) she accomplishes these warm and impressive works of art. Paintings that when I look at them provide that delight, comfort, and the inspiration I am eternally seeking.

As I grow and learn as an artist, I am on a never-ending quest for new goals and inspiration to aspire to. This is one of those times. I have never tried this technique myself and I do believe that not every person can successfully pull it off with the same grace and poise that Catherine does, but looking through her lens I can see her love and passion for beautiful things is true and sincere, thus solidifying my commitment to sharing those things and works of art that inspire me completely.

I define my world by the things that bring comfort and peace, in a time when things can be extremely hard and emotionally taxing, it is for this reason when I find something as pure and wonderful as the art that Catherine creates I am compelled to share it. If I can bring the same joy that I feel when I experience her paintings to one other person then I have certainly accomplished my goal.

Since I am dedicated to putting my best foot forward, not only do I want to share my own work with the world around me, but also the work of those that drive me forward, propelling me to my next goal and next creative adventure. It is only fitting that I can take any and every opportunity to express my gratitude to the artists that bring me the most joy when I glance upon one of their creations.

If at some point you need to pause and just reflect on something special, I urge you to find that which brings you a warm feeling, that simple pleasure like gazing upon something of beauty.
